I grew up in this very building! This particular flat, which we have called Torlonia, is located up 3 flights of stairs. Your reward for the climb is an accommodation bathed in sunlight, a view of the Colosseum which is less than 2 blocks away, and a wonderful terrace. Torlonia is a fantastic solution for 2 active couples coming to Rome. You have two large bedrooms, 2 full baths, living room with a good sofa bed, and a full eat-in kitchen. There's a little balcony with a table for 2, but the icing on the cake is the upstairs roof terrace, perfect for sunning, lounging, and outdoor dining and relaxing. The apartment is also fully air-conditioned.
The apartment is stone throw away from the Colosseum and subsequent metro station in the neighborhood called Celio. Despite being next to a world-famous monument, this neighborhood is surprisingly residential, family-friendly, and boasts many locally-owned shops and restaurants.
The metro is a 5-minute walk, but there are taxis and bus lines even closer than that. The Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill, and Arch of Constantine immediately abut the Colosseum, and there are lovely walks to be enjoyed, and architectural wonders to be enjoyed, all in the immediate vicinity. The neighborhood, which is called the Celio, is, despite its proximity to world-class tourist sites, truly authentic, with small shops, galleries, nightlife, wine bars, cafes, supermarkets, excellent fruit and vegetable stall, and all essential services.
